Teamsters Joint Council 42 Endorses Sara Hernandez for State Senate

Today, Teamsters Joint Council 42, the largest Council of the International Brotherhood of Teamsters representing 23 local unions and nearly 250,000 working Teamsters and retirees across Southern California, Nevada, Guam, Saipan, and Hawaii, announced its official endorsement of Sara Hernandez for California State Senate District 26. Their endorsement reflects a shared vision for a more equitable California—one where workers' voices are heard and respected.

"Sara Hernandez has been a steadfast advocate for working families — fighting for good-paying union jobs, fair wages, and economic opportunity. We’re proud to endorse her for State Senate because we know she’ll stand up for the needs of hardworking Californians. With Sara in the Senate, working families will have a tireless fighter who delivers real results.”

Teamsters Joint Council 42 has been on the frontlines of some of the most significant labor fights in the region, supporting workers in logistics, healthcare, education, and beyond. The Council has also played a pivotal role in electing pro-worker candidates across the state and shaping labor-forward policies that protect and empower union members.

Sara Hernandez, who has spent more than two decades working in and for the communities of District 26, welcomed the endorsement with enthusiasm and gratitude.

“It is an honor to earn the support of Teamsters Joint Council 42—a true force for dignity, equity, and strength for workers throughout our region,” said Sara Hernandez, Candidate for California Senate District 26.

“I have stood shoulder-to-shoulder with labor in the fight for better wages, safer workplaces, and expanded access to opportunity—and I will continue to do so in the State Senate.”

A former public school teacher, nonprofit founder, housing and environmental justice attorney, and current Los Angeles Community College District Trustee, Hernandez has centered her campaign on putting people first: expanding affordable housing, creating good union jobs, protecting immigrant rights, and ensuring every community has access to education and economic mobility.

Backed by the strength of Teamsters Joint Council 42, Sara Hernandez’s campaign is uniting labor, community voices, and working families behind a bold new vision for leadership in Sacramento.
